Below are samples of the knives I regularly make.  I may not have the exact knife pictured in stock as I enjoy making knives more than I do maintaining a website.  Having said that, I can replicate any knife pictured and probably have others in stock with different woods for the handles.  I also do special orders.

While the cost of a handmade knife is significantly higher than an equally serviceable manufactured knife, my prices are somewhat less than many handmade knives as I’m not trying to make a living at selling knives.  I make knives for the sheer joy of building something beautiful and useful.

If you have visited my website before, you might notice an increase in price on some of the knives.  Mostly they are priced according to materials costs and time in producing each blade.  Since they are all hand polished, the chef’s knife takes the longest to polish, so it costs more.  With the increased price, maybe I can keep a couple of chef’s knives on hand rather than always being two behind.

Chef's Knife

$200.00

Type: Kitchen knife

440C stainless steel, 1/16 to 3/32 inch thick, full tang

Hardwood handles, koa wood (wood choice varies, check for what I have in stock)

Overall length:  12.5 inches,  Blade length:  7.5 inches,  Blade height at handle: 2.0 inches

Mirror finish with minor tool marks. Unlike most, the handle shape is similar to a hunting knife. The 'pinch grip' is still possible, but you will probably give it up after using this handle shape for a while.

No sheath

My wife and I were on a trip to the East Coast recently and visited a maritime museum in St. Michael’s, MD. While there we got talking to a carpenter working on the reproduction of the “Maryland Dove” a 40-ton pinnace sailing ship. The ship was made using six different woods and the one that caught my eye was called Osage orange. It was a beautiful, vibrant, yellow-orange color and I wanted some for knife handles. Between my wife talking about where she and the carpenter both grew up and me talking wood and carpentry, he ended up finding and giving me a couple of pieces big enough for a couple of knives. I fashioned a set for this chef knife and will still have enough to put on a slicer and a paring knife to make a complete set. Normally, I use Tung oil on the handle, but I wanted the color to stay vibrant on this one so I used Varathane polyurethane  instead.

Dinner Carving Set

$250

Kitchen knife & fork

440C stainless steel, 3/32 inch thick, full tang, blade length varies between 7.25 & 8 inches

Wood choice varies, check for what I have in stock

A friend asked me to make a dinner carving set of a long slicer and serving fork and this is how they turned out. These are not quite finished and already spoken for, but I’m making more as I’m pretty sure they will sell well. The fork is store-bought from Jantz Knife Supply because it doesn’t need an edge, would be difficult and time-consuming to make the tines perfect and not worth my time. I’ll just put my handle on the blank, leave it un-engraved, and pass on the savings to my customer. As always, the steel is 440C stainless and the handles are wood. These particular three are purple heart, Hawaiian koa, and lacewood. The blade on my normal slicer is about 5 inches long whereas these three range from 7.25 to 8 inches. Perfect size for carving turkeys, large hams and as a defense against aggressive raccoons.
